Chinese antique lamps – Bamboo and Bats
In traditional Chinese art, symbolism has always played an important role, with great prestige, auspicious symbols for births, weddings, wishes for long life and congratulations for birthdays.
Many of these symbols, either as written character or as an artistic device have been in use in China for thousands of years, so that the derivation of some symbols have been lost in memory. However, even in modern China, these ancient meanings persist, still deeply rooted in the Chinese psyche.
Some are archaic origin of imperial dynasties three or four thousand years old, with others from the Chinese Buddhism. Many symbols also relate to Taoism, but most confusion arising from the philosophical thought with its focus on the seasons and the natural world.
Many of these symbols are discrete, which requires prior knowledge of its meaning. They can be read and when understood, convey a much deeper meaning for the viewer.
Some of the most popular symbols are -:
Bamboo – stands for longevity and courage in adversity. As is always green and because it grows straight, was a popular symbol for mandarins and represented an honest official.
Bats – the namesake "Fu" means both "stick" and "happiness", therefore, the bat is a popular symbol. Five bats shown together mean the five blessings: longevity, health, wealth, virtue and natural death.
Crane – Crane is another symbol of longevity as the bird was thought to live for two thousand years. A bird flying or looking towards the sun represents a desire for high in the government hierarchy.
Dragons – a symbol derived from ancient traditions. This symbol celebrates ranks first among all. The five-clawed dragon was reserved for the emperor of ancient times to the end of the last dynasty. The four-clawed dragon partners with royalty and the three-toed dragon with the Chinese people.
Chrysanthemum – One of the four important flower emblems that transmit the fall and an average age of satisfaction.
These are just five of the traditional symbols found in Chinese classical and decorative art. Antique and collectible Table Lamp Co's always a fine selection of Chinese lamps, many with the meanings "hidden" symbolism.
The golden rules when buying antiques – Do not buy for investment, buy for love. If you buy a lamp that I love you and use, then is a good investment. This is particularly true of antique lamps, which provide a link to another art of time and offer unique, often not available.
Lighting is an important element in interior design. Choosing quality, antique table lamps, coupled with stunning, silk screens added a refined edge of elegance to classic interior.
